CAS Upholds the Life Bans on Three IAAF Officials

Three athletics officials from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) have had their life bans upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The bans followed an alleged anti-doping conspiracy, which involved the concealment of anti-doping violations by Russian athlete Liliya Shobukhova.

Valentin Balakhnichev, Alexei Melnikov and Papa Massata Diack, seeking annulment of their life bans, had their appeals consolidated and referred to the same panel of CAS arbitrators. The Panel concluded that on the evidence adduced, the charges against the three men were established beyond reasonable doubt and that the sanctions imposed should be upheld.

CAS have indicated that the full award will be published as soon as possible.
