British javelin thrower Goldie Sayers is set to receive bronze medal from the 2008 Olympic Games

Goldie Sayers will finally receive an Olympic bronze medal after almost 10 years as the Russian silver medal winner’s appeal against her doping ban failed.

The sample from Mariya Abakumova -who took second place at the 2008 games- taken at the Beijing Games was re-evaluated in 2016, resulting in her disqualification but her appeal had been ongoing since.

The CAS recently announced that her appeal had been rejected, meaning Abakumova will remain stripped of her silver medal and Sayers will likely be upgraded to bronze.
