Announcement of Sir Richard McLaughlin as a Member of the Sport Resolutions’ Arbitration Panel
Sport Resolutions is delighted to announce that Sir Richard McLaughlin has been appointed as a member of its Arbitration Panel.
Sir Richard McLaughlin’s application to join the Panel was considered by the Board in accordance with set criteria and the appointment was unanimously approved.
Sir Richard McLaughlin was a Barrister in private practise for 27 years – 13 as Junior counsel and 14 as Q.C. In that time he practised in various fields of commercial law, personal injuries, judicial review and medical negligence. When practising at the Bar he held the Fellowship of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and was an early advocate of Mediation, having undertaken a course of study on that subject at Harvard in the 1990s.
Sir Richard held office as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Judicature of Northern Ireland from 1999 until his retirement in 2012. During that period he served as a judge of the Queens’ Bench, Family Divison, was the head of the Commercial List and became senior judge in the Crown Court. During his career he became familiar with many aspects of arbitration, mediation, medicine and traumatic injuries. He was knighted in October 1999.
