Adam Johnson Loses Court of Appeal Challenge Against Conviction

Ex-professional footballer and England midfielder Adam Johnson has lost an appeal against his conviction for sexual activity with a minor.

Johnson's latest application for appeal in a bid to reduce his current sentence was rejected by three judges at Bradford Crown Court.

During the trial Johnson admitted to one charge of sexual activity with the 15-year old female, as well as admitting to another charge of meeting a child with intent.

The court heard how the young girl had been groomed using social media applications, with the judge stating that there had been an "an abuse of trust".

Lady Justice Rafferty dismissed the sentence application, adding "Although a sentence of six years may be stiff, even severe, I do not consider it to be arguable that it was manifestly excessive."
